IPL 2022: RCB announced their Captain , read here

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has finally announced the name of their new captain. RCB has named Faf du Plessis of South Africa as the new captain of the team. He will replace Virat Kohli. Kohli had said just before the second phase of IPL last year that he would not captain in the IPL from next season. Du Plessis will be the seventh captain of RCB.


Before Du Plessis, Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Virat Kohli and Shane Watson have captained the team. Du Plessis will be RCB's first South African captain. He has been a member of the team of Chennai Super Kings for a long time before this. Chennai team has won four titles. Now it remains to be seen whether RCB's team can win the title for the first time under Du Plessis.

What did Du Plessis say on becoming captain?

Faf du Plessis said- Thank you for making me the captain. I have played many IPL matches. It is difficult to trust any foreign player. I am thankful to RCB for considering me worthy. 

On the other hand, Virat Kohli on Faf du Plessis being made the captain said, "I am looking forward to playing under his captaincy. Ready for a better partnership with him."


Du Plessis has played for Chennai and Pune Supergiants

Looking at the IPL career of Du Plessis, he was a member of the team of Chennai Super Kings from 2012 to 2015. After this, in 2016 and 2017 he played for the team of Rising Pune Super Giants. Chennai had bought him again in 2018. Under him, the team of Chennai became the champion in 2018 and 2021. Du Plessis has not captained in IPL matches so far. For the first time, he will be seen taking charge of a team in the IPL.

Faf has scored 2935 runs in 100 matches of IPL at an average of 34.94. His highest score is 96 runs. He has scored 22 half-centuries. Du Plessis's strike rate in IPL is 131.09.
